Andrea Marcon Impresses Across the Board
After Zubin Mehta was forced to withdraw due to illness, Andrea Marcon stepped in at short notice to conduct the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at the Isarphilharmonie on October 7 and 8 — and proved thoroughly convincing. With great stylistic finesse and a keen sense of transparency, he brought particular vitality and expressiveness to the works. He succeeded in weaving the individual orchestral voices into a sound that was both nuanced and cohesive.
The Münchner Abendzeitung describes him as a “stroke of good fortune for the Munich evening”:
“Andrea Marcon also has a happy knack for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.”
“In Symphony No. 41, the ‘Jupiter’, transparent rather than brutal tutti explosions delight the ear, alongside an exceptionally vivid rendering of Mozart’s contrapuntal mastery, with supple violins and woodwinds that remain present throughout.”
